Building chords from the top down

Is there an easy way to build chords from the top down?

I'm not sure - and also I note that there may be an easy note input method coming "borrowed" from Finale in 4.4.5.
I can do chords downwards - but it's a pain and takes too many key strokes.

So if I want an F7 chord to harmonise with an E in the melody - below it I need to do the following.
Input F + shift - which puts an F above the E, then do CMD/CTRL-down arrow to put the note below
I then have to make sure I'm still in the same space, and repeat for the A and C in the F7 chord.

Essentially I just want named notes below the melody not above.

I don't think that a simple way exists in MU4 right now.

Yes, you can, just as you described. Type
E
Shift+F, Ctrl+Down
Shift+A, Ctrl+Down
Shift+C, Ctrl+Down

As long as you type Shift + the note letter, the note is entered into the current chord. You do not have to "make sure I'm still in the same space".

This is not difficult to do. However, it's still much easier to just enter it from bottom up.
F (If necessary, Ctrl+Up or Down to get it into the right octave)
Shift+A
Shift+C
Shift+E

And, as OP pointed out, where I've written Ctrl + an arrow key, on a Mac it's Cmd + that arrow key.
