How do I make the e-d-e in the 2nd voice into a triplet?
The first e is played with the first chord, then the d-e is played before the 2nd chord

Are you sure you don't want this (triplet in voice 1)? See: 1triplet.mscz, and image below.
If you have a picture of this measure, please attach it, to avoid any ambiguity.

Thanks your reply. I don't know whether I need a 2nd voice or not. The notes in your example don't reflect how its played. The e-d-e-f# are all even in tempo. (that quarter rest is not there)

Have you an image of this measure? Or are you taking notes by ear?
EDIT:
"(that quarter rest is not there)"
Better?

I'm writing the song

Well, do you write the song from an existing score (a pdf or image - if so, please attach a picture), or do you compose a song, or try to transcribe what you hear on a video or something else?
Otherwise, we're reduced to a guessing game.

Well then, I'd say that: 4triplet.mscz
I.e, a triplet of quarter notes, followed by a half note (if we are indeed in 4/4, we could also write it, it would even be better here, in Cut Time)

Thanks! My apologies for the lack of clarity at the start.
