Mysterious drone in playback
I'm encountering a weird problem in playback. After a few bars of brass quintet, a drone note from one of the instruments in the score (trumpet?) begins and holds. Later in the score another voice (maybe horn or trombone) does the same thing. Nothing visible in the score matches what I'm hearing (other than the idea that the drone notes are the same as some notes in the score). Same thing shows up in an exported MP3.
This started after I had completed the score and played it back successfully several times. Also closed and reopened a couple of times. No change.
I'm attaching the file.
Any clues?
Thanks.
Will

I was listening your piece under Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and i had the same problem as you described. I decided to listen to each instrument alone and I found out the following:
1. By Trumpet in Bb1 at measure 7 starts the problem. I just made a Crtl+X of the content, the i copied it in measure 10. After that I copied the content of measure 10 back in measure 7 and it was working correctly. Of course i was deleting the content of measure 10.
2. in Trombone. Measures 31 and 35 the same problem appears, but in this case the workaround used with the Trumpet did not work. I just deleted the dynamic symbol and the problem disappears.
3. by Tuba, measures 7,15,31 and 35 causes the same problem. It seams to be that the dynamic symbols are the reason for the problem. I have generated a score by deleting the dynamic symbols causing the problem, but I do not the reason for the bad functioning.
Maybe some MuseScore expert can inspect the problem.

I also observe this under Win 11. It's the staccato dots on some notes that cause Musescore to play the note longer.
Well, it doesn't affect all notes, just some. For example, if I make the third note in measure 15 in the tuba without a staccato dot, then it plays correctly. The same goes for the last note of the trumpet in 7.
EDIT: It is the staccato dot in combination with the hairpin!
It's definitely a bug, report it on Github and attach the file.

Many thanks to hildek and puggbma for digging into this. At least I have a sense of how to find and fix the problem -- and what to look for in the future if it's not fixed properly.

Discovery made while trying to fix the broken places: The trouble lies in an interaction between staccato marks and crescendo/descrescendo hairpins. Mostly fixable by messing with the position or length of the hairpin.

Yes, Staccato notes and hairpins is a know problem. Supposed to be fixed in the next release. One way around it until then would be to make the 1/4 notes into 1/8th notes.
