[SOLVED] Musescore Studio 4.5.0 Crashes when using Kontakt

• Mar 15, 2025 - 12:41

[SOLVED]
I installed Musescore Studio 4.5.0 yesterday. I loaded an instance of Kontakt 6 to load Straylight (a synthesizer instrument). Soon thereafter Musescore could just disappear from the screen. Same thing happened when loading a Spitfire Audio library vst (The Featured Flute). Windows 10 x64, 128GB RAM, Ryzen 9 cpu, Nvidia GeForce 1660 GPU. I had no issues when not using vsts. In the previous version of MuseScore Studio, I did not have issues with using Kontakt 6 and when loading Spitfire Audio vsts.

Comments

Hi! I can't reproduce it on my end with 4.5, Kontakt 6.8.0 and Straylight on Windows 10.

  • The crash occurs each time you load Straylight in Kontakt, or it's a specific score?
  • What is your full version of Kontakt?
  • Can you attach the diagnostic files please? (Top Menu>Help>Diagnostic>Save diagnostic files)

Thanks!

I will work on getting you that info you need, this week. fwiw, Straylight in my DAW (Reaper, current version) caused huge errors and crashed my DAW-- I have never seen that happen before. So, not only crashed Musescore 4.5 but also my DAW. Both events were on my desktop PC, so I will try my laptop also and see what happens. Maybe it has something to do with my cpu, or gpu. Hoping that looking at diagnostic files as you mentioned might provide clues.

I tried recreating what led to the crash and was unable to do so. That is good news. The only thing I can think of that has changed since the crash issues involving Straylight is that on another composition involving strings, my Muse Sound strings had disappeared and so I had the horrible sounding Muse Basics; I had just upgraded Muse Studio from 4.4 to 4.5. I used MuseHub to reinstall the missing Muse Sounds strings (they had been there before the upgrade), rebooted, and my string sounds were once again very nice. Perhaps that install of the missing strings fixed some other issue that had caused the crash, idk.
