Allow melodic ideas to be saved in some sort of "pocket" that doesn't change the score
(Note: I am an absolute beginner)
I believe that it would be very handy if melodic ideas could be saved somewhere easily accessible within a project without being on the score itself. When an idea comes, one could just quickly mark it up in something akin to a note or the application notepad, but in musical form that can be played back in the program.

Add a few measures at the beginning or end (I always put them at the beginning) and paste your bits there. Need more space? Add more measures. Once you're done with the score, delete the extra measures.

I could do that but it just sounds a bit tacky, you know? Like there could be a better, more convenient way to have an idea on stanby. Thanks though
Or add a stave that is for that purpose. It can be lined up in the appropriate place.

Yeah, I thought of that later. You can even show or hide it from the Instruments/Layout panel.
If it's not in the score, it's in a separate score, so make a separate score and give it a similar name, e.g. "Grand Opus" and "Grand Opus - ideas". Save both in a dedicated folder on your disk and use the "Save as..." command frequently to give your project new names so that you will always have a backup.
