Time Signature Properties

• Apr 8, 2025 - 21:43

Since the latest update I find that the the re-beaming of Time Signature Properties is not working. I opened an old file where 6 quavers are beamed together in 3/4 time. The new updated Muse Score has re-beamed them into 3 pairs - which I know is standard, but Bach wrote it all beamed, which is clearer (BWV900).
I went into Time SIg Properties and tried to re-beam. No joy. So I tried to create a new 3/4, with the desired beaming, but when I inserted it into the score, it didn't work out.

Perhaps you can add the score for verification?

I tested in a new score and grouped the beam for 6 quavers and that works fine.

Have you perhaps set beam properties at Note level? Maybe Layout -> Reset Beams can help after setting the desired beaming for the time signature.

Of course MuseScore should not have altered the appearance. So would be something to investigate why this is happening with your score.

Henk: thanks for this swift reply - much appreciated. I will attach the score. I know I can reset the beams individually, but you'll see, that's quite a lot of work! Oddly. when I looked at the Time Sig Properties for my 3/4 in the score, it does show that the beams are all connected. But they aren't on the actual score!

The score is quite large. My issue is on Page 3, 3rd system. Again, thx in advance.

Found your issue and this seems to be part of what is report in this issue: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/21733

After a better check I noticed that even the first page is already showing the issue. Group of 2 quavers instead of 4. When you modify the first pickup measure you will notice the beaming works as expected.

Currently the length of the measure is 1/16. Changing it to 1/8 is already solving the issue.
Once you have done that, you can swap the 1/16 note and rest in the top staff and then hide the first 1/16 rest.
You can then split the 1/8 rest in the bottom staff to 1/16 and also hide the first.

Obvious this is just to workaround the issue....but at least it should get you a better score.

PS> Thank you for sharing the score, was nice to investigate and listen to the music as well.
