saved file, can't find it

• Apr 13, 2025 - 18:04

I saved a score to my computer, and then tried to view it. I had another filed named exactly the same, so I replaced it with the newer version, but for some reason I can find the old version only. I am desperate!!!!

If you saved it, then it must be somewhere.

If you are using Musescore V4 then there should be a link to your most recently saved scores in the Home page - other than that Musescore can't help you - it is your PC operating system that you must turn to. Try using the Find facility on your PC. Here is a link to the Windows version. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/find-your-files-in-windows-…. I guess other operating systems have equivalent methods. First start by looking in your documents folder with the option to look in subfolders. If that doesn't show it, start in the root directory C:\ .

I find that WIndows 11 is very insistent that I save files to Onedrive. If you are on Windows 11 try looking there as well as on your PC.

Also consider that you may have mistyped the name that you intended. Try looking for all Musescore files by searching for *.mscz.

AFAIK if you hit Save, the old file will be replaced automatically. During a Save As you may be asked to overwrite an older version. Also, a file will tent to save to the place it came from, unless otherwise specified.
I have One Drive disabled.
