Select one Verse isn't possible - always selects all verses

• Apr 13, 2025 - 18:34

It isn't possible to select only one verse, if a measure has multiple verses.
If you click one word and Shift select another word in the same verse all verses are selected.

The only way is to Select then the specific verse:
- Rightclick Selection
- Select > More
- Check both Same Subtype (Verse _) and Same Staff

If only Same Subtype is selected the selection won't change

Expectation:
If you shift select in the same verse only this verse is selected.
In the Select Popup only same subtype should be needed to select only one verse.

What version of MuseScore and what OS? I just had this work, as you wanted.
I selected the first word of verse 1. Right click>More>only left Same Subtype checked>OK. Entire verse one selected. Verse two not touched.

This somehow works well for me too. Have also W11 v4.5.1

Usually I tried to Shift select multiple Words by clicking on one Word and while holding the shift key select another word. This didn't work as expected.
And after you have multiple verses selected the partial selection of the selection didn't work.

You're right to say that in the presence of two verses (and more), selection, by as you say " select multiple words by clicking on one word and while holding the shift key select another word"), say on the lyrics of the first verse, results in the selection of all verses. What you summarize in your title : "Select one Verse isn't possible - always selects all verses"
This is/was unexpected for me too.

And of course you've seen that it works with the usual method: Select / More / Same subtype, Verse 1 etc.

However, there's another method, known as lasso selection. Press and hold the Shift key, and with the mouse, click just before the lyrics of the desired verse, and draw a selection frame.
