MusicXML annoyance - Chord extensions doubly defined
Sometimes when I import MusicXML into Finale I get double chord extensions such as F#7b5b5. The MusicXML file entry is
F
1
dominant
5
-1
alter
The gurus at Makemusic say:
This is rendering correctly based on the incorrect MusicXML. To get just one b5, either remove the b5 from the text attribute of the kind element, or add a print-object="no" attribute to the degree element.
The file header says:
Roses Of Picardy
Haydn Wood
Fred E. Weatherley

If you entered that chord symbol from measure 7, the "F#7b5" into Finale, what would the XML look like? Can you do that, export the XML from Finale, and attach?
And please, use a more current version of MuseScore. 1.3 is the released version, but all development work is going toward 2.0, for which you can downlaod a nightly build using the Download link in menu at right of this page.
Virtually everything about chord symbols and much about MusicXML has been completely rewritten since 1.0. If you can still reproduce, please post the MSCZ file you are having trouble with, or at least steps to reproduce one from scratch.

Marc, I suspect these are files he's pulling from somewhere, possibly musescore.com. Yes, some will have XML bugs that have been long fixed, but not all. He seems to be doing some detective work before posting, and so far he seems correct. I will try to verify this claim using Finale tonight, but the latest Finale I have is 2011 which might not be new enough.

Understood; that wasn't clear at first.
If the chord is supposed to be F#7b5, I can verify that if I enter that chord into a current build, it exports in a way that Finale Notepad appears to import correctly. But I'd still need to know more about what the original chord was actually supposed to be, how it was entered. etc.
Sorry - I do not have the original file. I got the MusicXML from Wikifonia some time ago and thought it was a bug in Finale...
