Moveable Do

• Dec 21, 2014 - 04:11

Sometimes a have a song that'll change key signatures in the middle of the song. How do I get the "Do" to adjust with the key signature. For example my original key signature is A flat, which means my Do is on the second space. If I change key signature to D flat in the middle of the song, then from there on Do should be on the space below the staff.

Hello! What do you mean by "Do" in this context? You have added "Do" as text to your score? As lyrics? As a chord symbol? Or do you mean you want the notes themselves to transpose? To transpose notes (eg, from Ab to Db), use Notes / Transpose. Changing key signature does not transpose (although as you wil see in the dialog that comes up, transposing can optionally change key signatures).

If that doesn't answer your question, please post the score you are having problems with and give step by step instructions to reproduce the problem. Also say what OS and what version of MuseScore.

I'm talking about shape notes. I'm using the 7 shape note plugin. "Do" is the first of the seven. "Re" is second. "Mi is the third, and so on. What I mean with movable Do is that when I'm in the key of E then the "Do" is going to be on the E line. When I'm in the Key of G the "Do is on the G line. Keep in mind that the rest of the shape notes belong to their corresponding lines and spaces depending on where the "Do" is. My problem is this: My original key is A, which means the "Do is on the A space. I happen to have a song that changes the key to D in the middle of the song. From there on the "Do" should start to be on the D line. But it doesn't. It follows the original key of the song, which in this case is A.
I'm using MuseScore Version 1.3 and I'm using Windows 8.
