Problem flipping direction of note stems with multiple notes selected

• Feb 20, 2015 - 18:00

Are you supposed to be able to flip the direction of note stems with multiple notes selected? If all the notes in the attached score are selected and then "X" is pressed, the stems on the crotchets and minims flip, but none of the others do. Is this the correct behaviour and, if so, why?

That suggests you need to click on a note, but the way I select all the notes is either to click on the first, then hold [Shift] and click on the last or right click on the first and "select all similar elements" from the dialog box. So I have selected just the notes. And it is not that flipping doesn't work at all, it just works for the crotchet (voice 2) and the minims (voice 1).

I *think* what you're seeing is kind-of sort-of expected behavior, although of course not really. Consider, pressing "X" on any single beamed note flips the beam. If you select *two* beamed notes and hit X, the result is the same as if you hit X on each one separately. Meaning, hitting "X" on the first note flips the beam, the second flips it back. So if you have an even number of notes on the beam all selected, it will appear like nothing happened. With on odd number of notes, it works as expected.

This could be fixed by somehow keeping track of this and not flipping a beam more than once during the same operation.

It's the same basic issue as #46596: Adding staccato to a group of chords fails on chords with even number of notes when using shortcut, although I suspect the actual fixes would be in totally separate parts of the code.
