Original MIDI files dynamics and tempo

• Jun 28, 2015 - 03:35

Hi, gang!!!

I uploaded a well known classical music piece, from the web (original MIDI file format) and its first "translation" to MuseScore 2.0.1.

My questions are:

1) Can MuseScore show the original dynamics of the file automatically? How? (I'm talking about the original file has dynamics changes and I guess it is some numeric parameter which MuseScore could translate as pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, etc.)

2) I know we can "hide" the annoying tempo indications at the top of the score (Invisible command), but... I wonder if we can ask a future request to change it, or add it into a separate window with a graphic line. Something like the attached picture (it is from an old MIDI editor software and it shows the tempo speed at the left, the measures number at the top, and the real tempo is the graphic red line we could change, at any time, with the mouse).

Greetings!!!

Juan

Always remember, the primary purpose of MuseScore is notation, not playback. If you have a score and you want the human musicians who will eventually play the score to change tempo, you'll need those tempo markings. However, if you ate using multiple tempo markings as a substitute for thngs like ritardando, that at least is something that it would make sense for MuseScore to eventually support more directly.

As for automatically adding dynamic markings based on an analysis of the note velocities, probably a plugin could be written to do something like this.
