I have recently downloaded the fluid soundfont and 7 zip from the soundfont page. How do unpack the soundfont? HOw do I apply it to musescore?

Using 7Zip should be rather intuitive.
About using your new soundfont in MuseScore, you may look at the relevant page of the manual .

For me when when I download a 7z file it opens automatically in the 7-Zip window. If it didn't open right away go to the downloaded 7z file and:
Right click -> 7-Zip -> Extract files...
