repeat previous N measures

I seem to recall a musical notation symbol which means to repeat the previous measure (or perhaps previous 2 or 3 measures). I don't know what it is called. Does anyone know whether such a notation exists in musescore?

on the pallete on the left, you will see a "%" which is the Repeat Measure Sign. Just drag that onto a measure, and it will mean previous meaure will be repeated once.

I don't know if there even exists a standard notation for specifying repeat previous N measures, though. If you look through the features requests in the issue tracker, I think this has come up.

If you go to view -> master pallete -> symbols, and search for "repeat", then you will see a symbol for "repeat last two bars" and a symbol for "repeat last four bars". Those aren't integrated into the playback yet, but if you atleast want them visible on your score, then you can select a whole rest in an empty measure, and double click one of those symbols, and it will appear in that measure. Then to make the score look nice, you can shift the symbol down a bit, and set the existing whole rest to invisible by clicking on it, pressing F8 for inspector, and unchecking the "visible" checkmark.

Yup, thanks, and thanks for the detailed info about the multi-measure repeat & the state of Musescore's support for it. (FWIW, my recollection coming from a jazz background is that the general notation, for N>4, is simply a bar with that *//* in it and the number written out above it of how many of the previous bars are to be repeated, requiring repeat style bar endings w/ number if the previous block is to be repeated more than once. So, for example, to indicate "repeat the previous five bars 3 times" would look like:
3 5
||: *//* :||

But I seem to recall that for the special cases of N=2-4, there were the customary notations of ||: */|/* :|| (N=2), ||: | *///* | :|| (N=3), and ||: | *//|//* | :|| (N=4), where */|/* means the *//* symbol written on top of the regular barline. Can any one confirm? 'Cause if that was "standard," then it'd be nice if that were the way Musescore implements playback's interpretation of that notation.)

And BTW: if anyone at Musescore is reading this: what an amazing product you all have bestowed upon us! Thanks! How do you guys feel about "Transcribe!"

Infact you can make one, two or 4 bars invisible just by highlighting them (in the Inspector) and choose invisible. Then drag a repeat measure sign into the empty measures. Then the playback will continue. I haven't tried it out at it's full potetial in the single parts, but it works as a visual concept. The thing I then miss, is a way to narrow the bars, so I f.i. could have like 8 or 16 (played but invisible) bars in one system in the singlevoices.

I know I can delete bars and make a note in the single-voices, but I haven't found a way to do that without changing the playback of the master-score as well.
