Change instrument in finished score
I accidentally typed in a single part score with piano selected as the instrument when I wanted violin. I checked the handbook on how to change that. The handbook said no easy way.
I exported the score to XML, then exported a violin score to XML, cut and pasted the part that specifies the instrument, and voila!

Wow, that's a brilliant workaround—except not really necessary. It is in the Handbook: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/change-and-adjust-sounds-0#change-ins… Still, very clever work.

Wow, thanks! I was sure I had read in the Handbook that there wasn't a way to do that, oh well, wrong again.
Back in day the I figured out how to edit a program's machine code on paper tape with a teletype, so this didn't seem too hard.

It's actually within the bounds of possibility that you did read in the Handbook that there wasn't a way to do it—or at least, that you read something in the Handbook that could easily be misunderstood. Given the number of minor errors that have been corrected in the documentation so far, there are probably still others lurking. If so, if you could find what you read before and point it out, that would be very much appreciated—or simply find it and correct it yourself (it's a wiki).
