Labeling part name on 2nd page
Hi, All,
Is there a way to include the part name along with the title of the piece on page 2, 3, etc? I am able to put the title on each page, but haven't discovered a way to include the part name. It would make collating a lot easier if I could!
Thanks,
Scott

You'll want to use a header: https://musescore.org/en/node/35896#style-edit-general-style-header

A header was my first guess, but I can find no tag that installs the appropriate part name on all pages after the first one. There doesn't seem to be mention of it on the tutorial you suggested, either. Maybe I'm just missing something?!

"$:partName:" but indeed all pages or none, no way to have it on all but the first

Actually, much to my surprise, it seems by default that tag is shown on all pages but the first. Try it!

Indeed! But only in header, not when used in footer.

Okay, when I did it for a part, the name of the part was entered; I then hit the button for "Apply to all parts" and it showed, correctly, the part I typed. The problem is that that part name [piccolo]showed up on ALL parts, not each individual name, but the one I entered [piccolo]. Does this mean I must enter each part separately? That there is no way that the name on page 1 is entered on all subsequent pages for each part? Setting this once for all parts would obviously speed things up from my standpoint, but just being able to do it at all is a great help.
Oh, I also discovered that I needed to enter it as follows: $:tag:piccolo
When I left out the "tag", nothing happened.
Thanks for your help so far!

You'd need to use "$:partName:", not "$:tag:piccolo", that would result in "piccolo" to show up in every part (after an invisible, because unset 'tag')

Doesn't work. I tried it for both header and footer and neither works.
$:partName:
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Sure you're using it in a part and not the main score? Does it show up in the yellow quick tip?

Yes, I am using it in a part and, no, it does not show up in the yellow quick tip.
It will do the one part, but not all of them at once.

Which version of MuseScore? Had that score been created with an older version? You should be able to add that tag to the parts where it is missing, via File/Info

newest version2.0.2
Yes, the file I was using to experiment was from an older version. I just tried this on a newer chart, one created on this version. And, YES, it worked perfectly! Thank you, JoJo! This will be a big help in the future and a time-saver. It's a shame we can't do this on the older stuff, but the future is what counts. Thanks again, all who tried to figure this out. What a great community!

On older scores you can manually add those partName tags via File → Info
In reply to On older scores you can by Jojo-Schmitz
Interesting that in an older version,it must be done for each individual part, and not "apply to all parts". Good to know, though. Thanks, JoJo!

Well, adding the tag needs to be done to every part individually, using it in header/footer can be done with "apply to.all.parts"
In reply to Well, adding the tag needs to by Jojo-Schmitz
I used it in header/footer, without the "tag", and I couldn't get "apply to all parts" to come up or work for the one I tried, either. If I did apply, that part alone got the part name on it. This was in a 2.0 arrangement.

Here's how I do it (have a look at the attached score and parts):

Thanks, xasman. I assume where it says part name at the bottom, next to the copyright, it would carry the name of each individual instrument on the part? As we just discovered, it only works on 2.0.2 versions of a chart, but that's all good, too.

"I assume where it says part name at the bottom, next to the copyright, it would carry the name of each individual instrument on the part?"
Actually, no. It could do, but in the example I posted, in fact that's the title ($:workTitle:). Take a look at any one of the individual parts (I already created them for you - just view them by clicking on the tabs), and then go to Style>General>Header, Footer, Numbers to see how I created the header and footer.
Note that the style used is different in the score than in the parts - e.g. if you open Style>General>Header, Footer, Numbers while viewing the score, you'll see different content than doing the same thing when viewing one of the parts (the Score style has no header content, and different footer text, page numbers appear in different places, etc. than in the Part style).
Attached is a revised example of essentially the same thing but showing the instrument names at the bottom of each instrumental part (as well as at the top). Again, take a look at Style>General>Header, Footer, Numbers to see how it's done. If you don't want the instrument names at both the top and bottom of each page, then simply delete $:partName: in either the header or footer boxes as required.
