Wrong keys for many instruments

• Sep 22, 2015 - 10:37

I am currently writing a band arrangement for a song. As I was writing I noticed that the keys of the euphonium, tuba an trombones were in concert C instead of B flat. Is there any way of changing the key of the instrument without changing the entire score/ writing a new score?

I'm guessing that you are writing for UK style brass band players, as these are the only group, to the best of my knowledge (as a euph, tuba and trombone player) which use transposed Bb parts. Next time you start a project, you can download templates for UK brass band instruments here to get you going:

On your existing score, you can just 'edit stave' and set 'play transposition' to a major second plus one octave down (or two octaves down for a Bb tuba).

If you are sure the players who will read your music are among those who will expect transpsoed parts (as mentioned, this is *not* the norm except in a few specific contexts; most brass players do *not* read transposed parts), then you can select the transposing version of these instruments by switching to "All instruments" an picking the "treble clef" version of these instruments. That assumes you also want treble clef, as in the British tradition. I gather there are also one or two Eastern European countries where they use transposed parts in abss clef; you'd have to set that up manually using the Staff properties as mentioned.
