C-melody saxophone
I'm working on music which will be played on a C-melody saxophone which is concert pitch instrument kind of half way between an Eb alto sax and a Bb tenor sax. It's sometimes called a C tenor in UK or tenor en ut in France. There is no C-melody option in the woodwind saxophone family in the instrument list so I'm selecting oboe instead. This is fine but it would be nice to have playback sound like a saxophone and not an oboe, (beautiful though the oboe sounds), so is there any chance of having a C-melody saxophone in the instrument list?

a plain "Melody Saxophone" doesn't fit the bill? Still transposing, but by an octave

I'm afraid I don't understand. Where is the 'melody saxophone' in the instrument list?

Just enter "sax" in the search box. I think it is in 'all instruments' but not in 'common instruments'

Ah you've caught me red-handed !! I have a confession to make, please don't choke on your coffee, I'm still using MS1.3. I transferred my score to MS2 and found and selected the melody saxophone and it's fine. I guess I'm just going to have to get to grips with MS2. Thanks for your help, and for the kick in the pants I needed to switch to MS2 after being with MS1 from its first launch.

;-)
You can have it in 1.3 too, by using a 'normal' sax and changing it's transpositioning (and Long/short Instrument Name) and ajusting the range

Yes I realized I could have done all that, but it was too fussy and I just settled on the oboe. I'll get stuck into MS2 now and set about transferring all my short cuts, key mapping, synth and other bits and bobs to MS2. Old loves die hard I'm afraid and I guess I've put off leaving MS1 for too long. Thanks again for your help.
