What is the best program for combining soundfonts?
I would like to make a soundfont that includes some instruments from GeneralUser and some from Sonatina, plus a couple of other random one-instrument files. I have everything in sf2 format. How can I combine them?

I would recommend either Polyphone or Viena, they're both free. Try both and see which one you like more.

Is there a simple way to just say, "I want the trumpet sound from soundfont A to replace the one in soundfont B" with either of those programs, or perhaps a different one? They both seem way above my head.

In Polyphone you can Drag and drop the "trumpet" (or any other preset) and delete the trumpet preset from the other, be sure to put the trumpet in the space (preset and bank number) you want it to be in (I recommend GM2 specifications, which can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI_Level_2 )

I do this a lot! It works! But sometimes it screws up the drums, might be my error. It's pretty easy to use though, so I could fix it if I wanted. Once you download it and start looking at the guts of the soundfonts you use you might find yourself tempted to make one.
