Can't see v2 on Ubuntu Software Centre
Hi,
I can't see musescore v2 in the Ubuntu Software Centre.
I am new to Linux having only replaced XP with Ubuntu last week. musescore 1.3 was installed along with the OS.
Is it possible to download v2?
Sorry if I've missed the answer elsewhere in the forums.
Thanks in advance!
Sam.

Which version of Ubuntu did you install?

Hi,
Thanks for helping!
I'm running 14.04.3 - please see attached screenshot for verification.
A friend brought Ubuntu round on a pendrive last week and I think there was an automatic update last night; shall I check which version he installed?

I have Ubuntu 14.04 and I see MuseScore in the software center just fine, and it reports it is 2.0.2. How are you searching for it? I am just typing "musescore" into the search box at top right. When it shows up and I press the "Info" button, it reports the version as "musescore 2.0.2+dfsg-1ubuntu1~trusty2". It is possible I had previously add a PPA to get this to appear. Did you see the "Download" link in the menu at right of this page and check out the different resources there?

Hi,
The software centre only seems to list v1.3 for me - as per attached screenshot.
I un- & reinstalled musescore just in case that would jolt it into v2 life, but no luck!

OK. Did you try the Download link I mention and look for info about adding a PPA?

Hi,
I don't think that worked. The terminal emulator claims I've already got the latest version, and Muse claims I'm on v1.3 (screenshots included of both).
Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same problem on Linux Mint 15 Olivia (Ubuntu 13.04).
Update from repositories claim it's the latest version but in fact it was MuseScore 1.3.
apt-get didn't work either.
I using a rather stupid solution: I downloaded the 2.0.2 MuseScore for Windows and I'm running it on a virtual machine.
It would be quite nice to have a download .deb package on the download page //musescore.org/
Hi, sorry I didn't see this sooner. To confirm what Marc said, you won't be able to see MuseScore 2+ in the Ubuntu Software Centre until *after* you have added the PPA (unless you are running Ubuntu 15.10), and even then it won't be visible for versions of Ubuntu prior to 14.04 (I'm hoping to do something about this in the coming weeks, see note below).
In the meantime, for Ubuntu 14.04 and later try this:
If you already have MuseScore 1.3 installed:
Or, if that didn't work, try:
If you don't have MuseScore 1.3 installed:
Note: installing MuseScore 2+ on Ubuntu versions prior to 14.04:
This is not currently possible (without compiling it yourself) but I am hoping to make this happen in the next few weeks. There are many reasons why this is difficult to achieve, so your best bet is always to upgrade Ubuntu. If I manage to make it happen, it won't be via the PPA or Ubuntu Software Centre, it will be via a special portable download from the Downloads page.
Note: manually installing DEB packages (not really recommended)
If you want to try this, you can download the packages yourself in your internet browser by visiting the PPA page, clicking "Show package details" (it takes you to this page) and then clicking the arrow next to the package you want to expand it and choosing the correct DEB files (musescore-common and also either the 32bit or 64bit version depending on your system). However, you'd really be making life more difficult for yourself if you try this because you'd lose the benefits of dependencies being handled for you, etc.
