loss of sound
I had sound, but after doing a computer checkup through AOL, I have no sound in MuseScore. How do I get it back? When I hit the space bar or use the playback button at the top, the highlighted area runs through the music but there is no sound.

Welcome aboard
It's possible the "checkup" reannraged some things on your computer it shouldn't have. If you go to View / Synthesizer, do you see a soundfont listed? The default is FluidR3. Also, what settings do you see in Edit / Preferences / I/O? What OS are you on?
One thing to try is following the instructions in the Handbook under "Revert to factory settings".
As suggested:
When I go to View/Synthesizer, there is no soundfont listed.
In Edit/Preferences: Port Audio is checked. API: MME
Device: Microsoft Sound Mapper-Output
I am using Windows 7
I have gone to program Files (X86) MuseScore 2 but do not find "bin" or "MuseScore.exe"

Do you have "Display hidden files" enabled?
Because MuseScore simply wouldn't run without the bin folder or MuseScore.exe.
Try a Factory reset......

If that doesn't fix it then AOL has screwed up your MuseScore installation big time! In which case you may need to download it again and reinstall.
After a similar experience in the past with an application called System Mechanic I now never ever use such software.

I do not know where to find "Display hidden files" so I do not know if it is enabled. I have come across "bin." I clicked on it and found "MuseScore" but not "MuseScore.exe." (However I did see "MuseScore.exe" in another screen but was not able to add -F to revert to factory settings. When I click on MuseScore it just opens up the program. I decided to uninstall and reinstall. But nothing has changed. Still no sound. I checked Sound Fonts. I get a window labeled "SoundFont Folders." Before it was empty. Now there are 2 items listed which were not there before:
C:/Program Files (x86)/MusicScore2/sound
and
c:/User//documents/MuseScore2/Soundfonts.

If there is no MuseScore.exe in the correct place, then I am afraid the program you ran, or perhaps some virus, has screwed up your MuseScore installation. I'd start by uninstalling MuseScore - although if the installation is sufficiently messed up, that might not work correctly either. Then reinstall it, then hopefully you will be able to find the file in order to run the "Revertt to factory settings" procedure. It might help to have someone more Windows0savvy with you as you do this to help with things like turning on the option to display hidden files if that becomes necessary (although it shouldn't), or to help diagnose whatever problems may have been caused by this other program / virus.
It's also possible that someone more familair with Windows might be able to see that things aren't aren't actually all that badly messed up, and might be able to show you how to run the "Revert" procedure without the need to uninstalla dn reinstall. But one way or another, it's the Revert procuedre that you will need to follow in order to get your soundfont back.

I am happy to say that my sound is back. I had a friend take a look at it and he restored it in 5 minutes.
