How make similar to original score?
Hi there,
I'm not a musician and it's my first ever post here. So, please bear with me.
I love this piece (The sacred dance of the priestesses) from Act I Scene 2 of "Aida" and would like to make a score for myself using the original orchestrated score I have downloaded from IMSLP . However, I have some difficulties with notation. Can you pls advise how I can rectify the following errors?:
1. My main problem is MuseScore doesn't allow to extend section (is this the right term?) to include more notes, as in the original score line (see: attachment 1). As soon as I reach the limit, it jumps to the next section. I tried to make barline invisible and even offsetting to the right but it doesn't help. :(
2. How can I split notes - original vs MuseScore? (see: attachment 1)
3. When I add B-flat clarinet to the group of instruments, MuseScore adds an additional set of key signatures (actually, repeats them) to other instruments which I have previously defined. How can I get rid of this repeated key signatures? (see: attachment 2)
Thanks!!!

ad 1 and 2: See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/tuplet-0, your example only uses some old style slur like tuplet bracket. Using tuplets and there is no need to extend the measure
ad 3. just select that superfluos key sig and hit Del

Thank you, Sir, that helped tremendously! I managed to add duplets and remove the key sigs. But I still cannot add 2 triplets to the same measure. I understand that's because of the single quaver rest remaining in the bar - it allows only two notes to be entered to the second triplet I want to add, moving the third note to the next bar... :( I marked the problem area in red, can you pls check the attachment?
I can move to a different measure but this breaks up notation making it ugly and disrupts... the 'flow' of music.
Thanks!

select the quarter rest and press Ctrl-3
oops, you got a quaver AKA 8th rest?

You have added duplets, should be triplets.
Delete everything starting from and including the red notes.
Select 1st crotchet/quarter rest.
Hit 5 for crotchet/quarter duration.
Ctrl+3 for triplet quavers/8th notes.
Type the 3 notes.
Repeat for every triplet.

Oh, and on another note, I just triggered corruption in 1 move:
1. Use VictorQuebec’s attached example.mscz above.
2. Select 1st red note.
3. Shift-select last bassoon note (measure 11).
4. Delete. Measure 10 is now an 8th pause short.
5. Save.
6. Reopen:
Bar 10 Stave 1 incomplete. Expected: 4/4; Found: 14/16

Something is *already* wrong with measure 10, I think. That first red note (the Bb on beat three in the first flute part) claims to be a triplet eighth, yet the next two notes are regular eighths, not triplets. And if they *were* triplets, the measure would already be half a beat short.
It would be good to know how the score got into this state!
1. If I understand correctly, you do not have to! Simply go on with the next measure, regardless of the system ('line' of music) this measure happens to occur in. MuseScore fits in each system as much 'stuff' as it can with the current settings.
Once the score entered, you may evaluate if it would be wise / useful / nice to have it on more or less pages / systems and modify the setting accordingly (a recent discussion about precisely this aspect can be found in this thread , but the point comes out regularly and you may find other threads as well).
Further comments:
1 & 2, I don't really understand, but I guess you are maybe needing to understand what tuplets are. Triplets, in this case: three notes in the space that would normally be occupied by two. See Wikipedia for more info on tuplets / triplets, see the Handbook for more on how to enter them in MuseScore.
3) MuseScore does not add key signatures when you add instruments. Spomething else must have happened to cause that - like you inadvertently added the key signature yourself from the palette. But indeed, you can delete key signatures by selecting them and pressing Delete
