Removal of 2nd voice from bar should also remove all voice 2 rests.
r3507
Str:
1. New piano score.
2.Add notes in voice 1
3. in same bar, add note in voice 2.
4. Remove all voice 2 notes in bar.
Expected result: All 2nd voice elements should be removed, including rests.
Actual result: Voice 2 rests remain, causing a need to make them invisible.
See attached.

Just delete the rests. Select a rest and press Del. Rests on voice > 1 are deletable.

That does work, if I Ctrl select every rest and delete. However, again, if there are a large number of these, it is very click-intensive to do that. It seems to me that this should be an automatic feature. I will make this a feature request. Thanks.

There is a need for having measures with nothing but voice 2 rests (think of 4-part choral works written on two staves).

I wonder which is more common?
Perhaps we will get some responses to this thread.

I find myself having to "double delete" fairly often. The first delete gets rid of the note/notes and the second delete gets rid of the rest/rests. I find myself wishing there was an alternate delete operation that did both deletes at the same time (maybe a right-click option, or some ctl-dl or shift-del or other keyboard shortcut?)

Delete, Delete is two key presses. Shift-Delete would also be two keys and (and is technically more difficult to press since you have reach across the keyboard). Can you explain your problem better?

ok: to entirely remove a sequence of notes, the steps are:
1) select the notes
2) press Delete (notes turn into rests, but are no longer selected)
3) select the rests
4) press Delete
In step 2, if the rests were still selected after the first Delete, then one-more-delete would certainly do the trick! The problem I run into is having to re-select the rests before doing the second Delete.
In reply to There is a need for having by David Bolton
That seems a separate issue. If 2nd voice rests are needed they can be added, That's not what I'm addressing.

Sounds like an option to delete a whole voice might fit the bill.
Under Edit/Voices there's already options to exchange voices. Maybe there could be a delete option there too that removes everything associated with a voice

...yes please, that would be highly appreciated here!
Thank you for the software, i find it pretty useable so far...

Unwanted rests can appear when entering cues, which must be done in another voice to retain rests for the principal instrument (or voice), or when keyboard parts call for different numbers of voices in different bars (as when different rhythms occur simultaneously in the same hand in some bars). Usually all is well, but sometimes rests are created for an extra voice through the whole rest of the score. Removing or hiding them individually would take forever. Right click on one, select all similar elements, and delete or hide will do it for all; if there are similar elements you wanted to retain, you will have to re-enter them or set them visible individually, but this may be much less onerous. Not ideal, and I would like to know how to avoid the need.

When are you seeing rests being created "through the whole rest of the score"? That sounds like a bug, one I've never run into. Normally, rests would only be created for the measures containing the extra voice, and really, you'd want all but perhaps the leading and trailing rests. I wrote a plugin (see the Plugins repository in menu at right of this page) to create cue notes - it takes all notes & rests in a selection, shrinks them, and makes the notes silent. It would probably be pretty easy to adapt it to make leading / trailing rests invisible. Or, for that matter, to write a plugin to delete all rests in a given voice within a selection - thus addressing the original subject of this thread.

great Marc.

I spoke too soon. I thought I had remember there being a way to delete things from plugins, but I don't see it now. I don't even see a way to make rests invisible - only notes.

John P, Could you give exact steps so that others can reproduce the problem you describe? What version of MuseScore are you using?
In reply to John P, Could you give exact by David Bolton
I am using 1.2, but I'm not sure I have had the problem in it. In fact, I have been doing a fair amount of the kind of thing that I thought might lead to the problem without its occurring, rather to my surprise. Previously I used 0.9 and 1.1. I can't reproduce a previous occurrence, though another correspondent apparently had the same problem. If it happens again, I will try to keep track of what led there.
