Looking for "error: 2503" on the web would seem a Windows problem.
For prudence do a scan with the antivirus.
If you don't manage the fix the error, try the portable version of MuseScore instead: https://musescore.org/en/download/musescore-portable.exe
I have tried installing musescore 2.0.2 on multiple occasions on windows 10 with no success. I have tried the protable version with no more success. Ihave also tried 1.3 and the result I get is gibberish. I have been a happy user of your product for many years and wish to continue using it as I have many files stored that I need to further work on. Please help, thank you

What specifically goes wrong when you install 2.0.2? If an error message appears, what does it say? If no error message appears, what leads got to believe it didn't work?

Nothing happens. The hourglass appears very briefly and disappears. I have tried to click on "open" on the menu with no results. I do not get any error messages. Nothing at all except that the program does not open. I normally use the French version but I have also tried the English version with the same results.

@Robert, perhaps it is superfluous but make sure that Firewall and Antivirus allow to run MuseScore. Have you already tried "Run as Administrator"?

Is it the *installer* that won't run, or did you already successfully install it and now you are trying to run MuseScore itself? Please be as precise as possible about what exactly you are clicking on. Also, try rebooting. And if you *have* successfully run the *installer* and are now trying to run MuseScore itself, try doing so by following the instructions inthe Handbook under "Revert to factory settings".
In reply to Is it the *installer* that by Marc Sabatella
Musescore is installed and all the folders and files are visible under C; program files/musescore. The .exe file is visible under the Bin folder. Clicking on the .exe file brings no action whasoever. I have followed the instructions from the handbook "Revert to factory settings" as you have suggested, with no success. It still won't work.
So, the installer works o.k. I am trying to Musescore itself. I have clicked on the icon, the esec file, the link under "applications" I have run as per your suggestion and stll nothing works. I use Bitdefender as my virus protection and have so disabled windows defender, can this hae an implication?
There is not much of a mystery to downloading a program. I do it all the time without problems.
Thank you.

Next thing to try would be to start a terminal window and run MuseScore from that, trying the -F option, the -s option, and the -w option, and posting the output you see in the terminal window (hmm, I seem to recall that maybe on Windows you won't see terminal output, but if -s or -w allows MsueScore to start, that will eb good information).

You are right, I can't see the results but nothing works. Still the hourglass appears very briefly but nothing happens.

IFor your information, I have just installed Musescore 2.0.2 on my laptop and it works very well. Both computers work with Windows 10 and were configured at the same time.

Does MuseScore appear in the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc)?
If so, maybe it has been moved off screen.
Regards.

No it does not appear. I have been trying to install the 64 bit version as suggested but when unzipping I get the message that my computer is missing the "libfreetype.dll" file. I have found the file and copied it into the musescore program but I still get the message. Could this be the problem?

Hi Robert, what about the 64bit version of MuseScore 2. Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

As you have hit the missing freetype dll issue, make sure you read this and next comments: https://musescore.org/en/node/87536#comment-388236
Re: Unable to install
I tried everything and was about to tear my hair out, but noticed under right-click Properties a sentence right down the bottom read something like "File may be blocked......"
I clicked Unblock and it installed.
Hallelujah!
