adding a stave/staff
I have set a song by Brahms using MuseScore, using the choral template (with 4 staves, S, A, T, B). Now it turns out that, in the last twelve measures, the bass is doubled, i.e. I would need to add an additonal stave to the systems that comprise these measures (I cannot simply add another voice to the bass, because the timing and the lyrics are different in the two voices, see attached scan of the score of these measures). Can anyone tell me what I have to do to solve that problem? I add the mscz file, so you can see what I am working on.

Add the extra staff, enter the notes, then turn on Style / General / Hide empty staves.
Although FWIW, you *could* do this with multiple voices in one staff, having different timing is exactly what multiple voices are for. And by attaching the lyrics to the appropriate notes, you could also position the top voice lyrics above the staff and the bottom voice lyrics below. This sort of thing is done all the time in fact. But so is the extra staff, and MuseScore supports both approaches.

thanks for pointing out the alternative solution.
But if I want to reproduce the score, how do I add an additional staff to the systems in the last 12 measures (the new staff needs to be part of the systems)

Just as I said - first add the staff, then enter the notes, then turn on the "Hide empty staves" option so that it only appears in systems where it is needed. If you are asking how to add a staff, it's in Edit / Instruments. That will add it throughout the score, but the "Hide empty staves" option is the key to making it only appear when needed.

I cannot find the option "Hide empty staves" under Style/General, Is it hidden somewhere in a sub-menu?

If you do not see it this way:
maybe you need to try https://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings-0
