Could MuseScore borrow MIDI recording capability from MusE?
Lately requests for MuseScore to add real-time MIDI recording capability have been heating up. While I know it's not a high priority, I'm wondering about one possibility that occurred to me. MuseScore, of course, can process MIDI tracks into notation (though not always with good results )—all that's missing is the ability to record MIDI input chronologically before processing it. MuseScore's sequencer sibling MusE, also developed by Werner Schweer, is able to record MIDI in real time.
What are the prospects for a little bit of code sharing between the two long-separated projects?

I don't know MusE in and out but it is Linux only. As far as I know the midi recording facility relies on ALSA, which is Linux only :(
Also, even if they have been several requests lately, they are of different natures... Some people wants to use MIDI input to enter notes. They know the limitation of such an approach and will be ok if MuseScore was able to enter a simple leadsheet with quarter note, halfnote, 8th and occasional dotted one. On the other hand, other people have other expectation. They want to play and get a sheet music ready to distribute. It's not realistic obviously...

Their expectations are way above reality :)
IME what they expect would not be possible in SIbelius or Finale either.
FWIW serious composers don't compose from keyboards - they go straight from brain to stave.
Trying to compose on a keyboard for orchestra or choir is a bit like trying to write a book on an iphone, only using the screen input!
I can still remember watching my A level teacher writing an 8 part Introit anthem straight out onto manuscript paper.
Of course in order to do this you have to train your ear and mind to do it, a step the wannabees aren't prepared to take.

Well, import of a reasonably complex MIDI file often yields something less than sheet music ready to distribute. Nonetheless, MuseScore does import MIDI, and includes an "is human recording" option—i.e., we don't consider that entirely not worth supporting.
