I did it with "Right click" -> " Remove selected Range"

Thanks. Earlier I managed to delete the measure but through fumbling around
am now stuck with a clef and key signature in the middle of the system that I can't get rid of.

All you need to do is click on the items and delete them. Or do I misunderstand your problem? (If so, please post with score.)

Delete removes the contents of the measure and replaces them with a measure rest.
CTRL+Delete removes the measure completely and also any others at the same position on other staves.
Can't open your score meanwhile.
