tempo seletion play panel vs. tempo icon
are the tempo icon and tempo in play in synch? or meant to be in synch?
I dont thnik so. On ver 2.0.2. I can change them independently, and, only the play panel affects what I hear.
Correct?

(yes I'll follow Jojo suggest and upgrade to high ver 2.)

What tempo icon?

the "tempo icon + text" that is available under "pallets"
I would have thought that it and the "play panel" are linked.
They refer to exactly the same info.

No. One is the tempo the musician and MuseScore is supposed to play, the other is what you force it to be instead as a temporary override.
One is a score setting and saved alone with it, the other is a program setting and not stored anywhere.
It has been that way ever since, MuseScore 1, 2 and 3
If you mean the tempo text rather than the icon, what you enter into the play panel does not change the tempo text. You can use the play panel as a tool to decide which tempo you want if you don't like your current setting or if you just want to hear chords better and slow the entire score down some.
