Project
1) create a score with 6 instruments
2) group all instruments together with thick line bracket
3) group 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th instrument together with the thin square bracket
the square bracket of the 1st pair is much narrower than the other 2 brackets and I could not find any way to adjust the width.
I know its not a major issue but I would like to create a score that looks like the original score (example score01.png)

This is because you'd already added square brackets to 3rd and 4th, 6th, 8th staves for some reason. These brackets have the wrong column value 1 instead of 2, so they are hidden inside the big bracket. Delete these brackets and the brackets on the outside can move to proper positions.

If preferred (?), see a result: Arvo Pärt - Cantus 2.mscz
About added square brackets: maybe you double-clicked instead of a single click, like it's enough now? Or some attempts to achieve your goal ?
In any case, to obtain the result of the attached file above, the trick (maybe there is a solution with the addition of a single square, but I haven't found it yet) is to placing two squares (with size edit of one of them).
On the condition that the square of the first Violins is placed in the second staff, not the first one. You can see this by removing - at least temporarily - the main bracket.
I don't really know the raison, and what is intended for, but the wished result is there.
