Eighth notes
I would like to take a group of four eighth notes and eliminate the beam between the second and third notes. How would I do this?

In Shoichi's link, you want to put Start beam on the 3rd note so it will start a new beam group.

Select one or more notes and/or rests in the score and click the desired symbol in the Beam Properties palette (double-click in versions prior to 3.4).

I just figured it out. It seems you have to use the beam properties before you input the notes. You can't go back and reconfigure it. Thanks for all your help.

You can either establish a beaming pattern when you create a time signature as described in https://musescore.org/en/handbook/time-signatures#change-default-beaming on the time signature page or override any beam using the palette as described in https://musescore.org/en/handbook/beams

No, you can apply beam properties at any time. But, if you have already applied explicit beaming from the palette, or explicit beaming was applied as part of, say, MusicXML import, then changes to the defaults in time signature properties won't override those defaults.
