Rubber band type selection as default on mouse click
I love Musescore's selection options, they're great and thorough. However it would be very practical for Musescore to offer rubber band type selection on mouse click. I'd recommend the current default of score moving (hand tool in other software) with mouse click as an option instead. For people with track pads and two finger gesture scrolling, this mouse click function becomes redundant.
In the attached image I show the practicality of rubber band selection. For this type of context, it is time saving. I also believe this would go with Tantacrul's philosophy of a newbie finding things working as expected.
This rubber band selection was discussed by Diderique in another thread that got quite diverse in topics. I thought it would be good to keep this subject clear and in its own thread.

I think you are referring to "Drag selection" in MuseScore:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/selection-modes#drag-selection
I think that allows the height-limited selection in your example?

Hi! I didn't know about the drag selection feature. However I just tried it with the example I have in the image, and the selection defaults to what I call chronological. That is, it only looks at the first and last note in the selection, and selects all notes within that time margin; not just the notes in the dragged box. I included here images showing my selection, and Musescore's result. I'm using Musescore 3.6.1

Indeed a range selection. Where is the problem?

Doesn't select by the pitch (vertical extent) of the visual selection of the noteheads?
[EDIT]
The Select > More... option almost gets there, but only allows selecting the pitch of the first note of a longer selection:
If there were also a choice of Same pitch range:, with two editable boxes for the required lower and upper pitch?

That's it, it won't let me select by the pitch (vertical extent) of the visual selection of the noteheads. It would be super straightforward if the box delimited by the drag selection were interpreted directly.
And I tried releasing shift first, mouse first, or both at the same time; I get the same result.

Can you explaiin the real world use case, ideally with an actual score? In general, the vast majority of times sometoens wants to select notes, they want a range selection, since most of the interesting things one might do with notes require it.

Hi Marc! Actually the image I provide is real word use case. I summarized 16 bars of a piece I'm working on with the one bar I used for example. I changed up the rhythm, but besides that as of vertical note placement it's equivalent. I basically was going through 16 similar bars to bring the highlighted notes down one octave. I did it manually, one note cluster at a time without the lasso.
With a lasso working as direct box space selection, I could've edited all notes in one pass per staff.

Sorry, it's not really clear at all what's going on from that picture. You are using cross-staff notation on a passage that wildly changes octaves? Or something involving disabling autoplace or use of fixed spacers to make notes on one staff appear on another?
Either of those would be the sport of highly unusual thing I mean when I say the vast majority of the time that would not be what you want.

Hi Marc, I'm sorry, but it's a whole process. I'm writing out this piece where yes, there's cross staff notation. Originally the top staff was treble clef, and then in my creative process I decided to bring those notes down an octave in a bass clef. So... I first changed to bass clef, then after dropped those notes down an octave.
I just thought I'd share my editing experience.

Hi Jojo, thanks for chiming in. The problem is that I'd expect the selection enclosed by my dragged box to be literally interpreted as such. But in the images I included, you can see that once I release shift and mouse click (release order doesn't matter - I tried) Musescore interprets the selection differently.

Lasso-select works only outside of staves, as soon as a staff gets touched it turns into a range-select

Ok, noted. Thanks.
Besides that, is my proposal still valid as a feature request? I wonder how most users expect the lasso to work. Working differently inside and outside staves is kind of not universal.
