Copy and Paste individual layers within one staff
It would be great if I could take for example layer 2, copy it, then paste it in layer 2 on the next measures without erasing layer 1 or having to use some cumbersome work-around!!!!

Assuming you mean voices, this is already possible, see View / Selection Filter and the Handbook sections on selections and on copy/paste.
