how to change stave distances
OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.6.2.548021803, revision: 3224f34
Hi
I have just opened an old file of mine in the latest (I think) version of Musescore. It is a typical Big Band score and the score fit pretty much on portrait A4. The new version has created rather large distances between instruments such that only the sax section plus 2 trumpets now fit on the page. How do I make the gaps smaller please?

Could there be an invisible element? Better attach the *.mscz file.
Try Ctrl+a->Ctrl+R.

thanks, have done so
there are a few bars where the number of beats is messed up (bars 21, 97 and 111) that I was going to fix before I re-arranged the piece.

Better to eliminate Parts, then correct, then regenerate.
Done with an old version (1.3), better to open it with versions closer in time.

Thank you, I would do but can't get to see all the score. IF I could make the distance between instruments smaller, (eg the tpts or Tbns) then that might be possible.

I think you will have to delete the measures 21, 97,111 and write them again.

The extra space is there because there are markings that were added to one staff and then dragged far above or far below , so far they look like they are attached to a totally different staff. 1.3 wasn't smart enough to detect this error and would literally allows markings on one staff to appear on other staves, but MuseScore 3 is much smarter and prevents elements from appearing on the wrong staff by adding space.
So, for instance, select measure 4 on the brass staves and press Ctrl+R, this returns the incorrectly-adjusted elements to their proper staves. Same for alto 2. Really, quite a few places throughout the score where elements are attached to entirely the wrong staves for whever they seem to be trying to appear. Probably best to do Ctrl+A to select all, then Ctrl+R to reset, and then see if there are things that need re-adjusting. I can see some very strange things done with staff text being used to emulate rehearsal marks, probably best to just delete those and add actual rehearsal marks.

"Ctrl+A to select all, then Ctrl+R" to reset worked a treat thank you Marc.
