Note Input Mode: on by default?
Is there a way to tell Musescore to start up in Note Input Mode, or to just remain in Note Input mode until I change modes or turn it off? Every time I click away from the screen, I have to press "N" to go back into Note Input mode, even if I click on a note where I'd like to continue editing.
Is there a way to tell MuseScore to enter Note Input mode whenever I just click on a note? This was a feature in Sibelius. As of now, clicking on a note does not take me back into Note Input mode: I have to click and press N, too.
Reason: I often go back and forth from YouTube while making arrangements by ear. Pressing "N" every time I switch back and forth from YouTube is cumbersome.
I tried adding a mouse-click "hotkey" for entering Note Input mode, but couldn't figure out how to make "click any note" a hotkey.
I did some research and found the following threads where it was discussed:
https://musescore.org/en/node/270451
https://musescore.org/en/noteinput_redesign
And see the picture, too. That person has a similar idea as me.
Thanks!

There is not a way to start MuseScore in note input mode, but merely starting in note input mode wouldn't really help with what you describe, switching between programs. On the other hand, I'm not really understanding the problem here either - once you enter note input mode, you should remain there until you explicitly turn it off. Switching to YouTube shouldn't involve leaving note input mode at all. Alt+Tab there, Alt+Tab back. Or if you prefer clicking, just click the MuseScore icon, or the title bar.

Yes, you are correct, the tab feature does work for staying in Note Input mode. I must have been clicking away from note input mode. Thanks for the quick response.
I'll modify my question to this:
Let's say I have clicked away from Note Input mode to edit text or something. Is there any way to program MuseScore to enter Note Input mode immediately when click a note (or rest) anywhere on the score?
Sometimes I click on a rest because I want continue to input notes right at that spot; but I have to press "N" before my MIDI keyboard will successfully create a new note on the rest that I just clicked.
Interestingly, I CAN select a rest and change the duration of it with my num pad BEFORE entering into Note Input mode.

No, there is not a feature where clicking a note puts the program in note input. I have trouble imagining how that would work - wouldn't that make doing things other than enter notes almost impossible? Do note that the regular computer keyboard shortcuts for note input (eg, the letters A-G) do enter note input immediately.
