It's not clear for me what you exactly mean (isn't a soundfont loaded, or is it loaded but not shown for you?). Be aware, that sf2/sf3 soundfonts are shown under the tab "fluid", sfz soundfonts under the tab "zerberus" and you can add desired soundfonts there.
Or are you talking about a specific soundfont, or something other?

You said you went to the Synthesizer window. If you are still there, and don't see any soundfonts loaded, and you've already follow each and every one of the steps listed in the FAQ article above, including the revert to factory settings, then you should see button labelled "Add" right there in the Synthesizer window. Click that. If you don't see MuseScore_General listed, it means something has gone wrong with your installation, so you could try uninstall / reinstall. But first be absolutely 100% sure you have followed each and every one of the suggestions in that FAQ article.
