change violin score Bach Chaconne D minor to classical guitar score and sound

• May 23, 2021 - 18:35

Using iMac with latest Musescore version 3.6.2.548020600
1. Right clicked on empty part of measure of violin score to bring up staff/part properties

  1. Changed instrument from violin to Strings- Plucked/ classical guitar, clicked OK twice. Score shifted up one octave, but the pitch of guitar sound remains same as violin (one octave higher than what classical guitar should be).

  2. Changed Clef to "Treble clef optional 8va bassa" which restored the score one octave lower as it should be, but the pitch of the guitar sound is still one octave too high.

  3. Next I tried Transposition 1 Perfect Octave down , clicked OK. Score shifted 2 octaves up but the guitar sound remains the same.

I've tried other combinations but nothing brings the results I am looking for which is proper classical guitar score with correct pitch.

Thanks cadiz1!
Tried the "select all (Ctrl/Cmd + A) and lower one octave, with Ctrl/Cmd + down arrow", works great! Too bad the arpeggio sections don't appegiate and play chords instead.

I listened to the score you posted and noticed in M75, last 2 beats is E C#, should be F E. Also M129, 3rd beat is C, should be Bb. How did that happen?

You are right.

Well, I guess typing errors from the user who posted this violin partita on musescore.com. Nobody is safe from error(s) :)

Don't forget that this is the original violin version, and that Bach wrote it that way. I did not have at hand all the guitar adaptations, but the one by Segovia for example (the most common one, published by Schott) adds some bass notes and explicitly displays/writes all the notes in this arpeggios section. As well as the one by Betancourt, here (after the analysis part, ie p. 48) : https://lifein12keys.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Chaconne-d-minor-ba…

Strangely, the 2 errors (M75 & 129) are not in Musemeister's original violin partita, nor when I followed your instructions to re-pitch & re-voice it to classical guitar!

My apologies, looked at Musemeister's score just now and the 2 errors are indeed there! I must have corrected the errors when I noticed it a year or so ago when I downloaded/ listened to it in midi, the version I re-pitched.

Thanks for your help cadiz1, greatly appreciated!
