I have added text to my score, but it is jumbled up and overlapping. Is there anyway to stretch out measures to facilitate the text?

Are you adding lyrics to a song? Or just instructions to a player?
MuseScore supports different types of text. Lyrics is ont type, and it should by default not overlap. Instead it should stretch the measures to fit.

Well, I should have been using cntl/L to enter lyrics! Live and learn. The more I use Musescore the better I like it! Thanks everyone who replied.

To show fewer measures on each system (thus stretching the measures), you can use a system break at the end of each line. Breaks and Spacers have their own palette and are described here in the Handbook:
