Cannot play score using MIDI keyboard sounds
Hi,
I have a Yamaha CP88 electric keyboard. It has a lot of sounds I can choose from, and they are stored in numbers like 1-1, 1-2, 1-3... all the way to 20-8.
I have my keyboard MIDI output plugged to the USB input of my laptop. And I plug headphones into my keyboard and I can hear Musescore's native sound just fine. But now I am trying to play a Musescore score with the sounds that are currently selected on the keyboard. I go to I/O and tried to mess around with the settings like in this photo. I am careful to restart Musescore after a new settings but nothing seems to work.
- Under API, what should I choose? For my DAW (Reaper) I always choose ASIO and it seems to work. Then on Device I would choose Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO. With Musescore it did not do anything.
- For MIDI input and output, which box is the one to make Musescore play notes using my keyboard's sound?
- There are options here: CP88/CP73-1 CP88/CP73-2. I tried all different combinations then restarted Musescore but nothing works.
- There was one time that it worked (I could not remember the configuration). However it was very strange. For example on my keyboard I had memory 19-7 selected, when I click play on Musescore it automatically resets my keyboard sound to 19.1. During playback I can click 19.7 on my keyboard and the sound switches just fine. But no matter what I do, everytime I stop and restart Musescore playback, it always choose the memory xx-1 on my keyboard's sound memory (for example, if I was on 1-6 it would select 1-1).
Anybody has some work-around for this bug? Or if you successfully played the score with your keyboard sounds, could you share a screenshot of your setup? Thanks!

MuseScore MIDI export includes setting the chosen sound patch banks; which is why your sound selection is "resetting" every time you restart playback. Because MuseScore is sending out the intended instrument for each staff.

Thanks! Are you saying I cannot playing using MIDI keyboard's sound at all? That is possible because I did it once.
Or are you saying there is no way to play with a sound bank that is not 1-1, 2-1, 3-1? That seems weird. If Musescore can play with one sound bank, it makes more sense that Musescore choose the currently selected sound back instead of resetting to x-1. And why not reset to 1-1? Why resetting to the current group then the first slot?
Do you have a MIDI keyboard, can you share your I/O setup and results?

I'm assuming that since MuseScore follows General MIDI it is not really aware of other sound banks at all and only sends the program change event; I'm equally assuming that your keyboard doesn't change banks if all it receives is a program change event.
I have no MIDI keyboard setup myself.
