Same/tied notes dynamics

• Feb 27, 2022 - 12:08

Hi Folks
Probably too basic a question but I would like to know about how to transition between two dynamics during a long note or a tied note passage as in the score attached. Of course, I mean in the playback. In the given example, the dynamics transition works fine for the untied notes, but the tied whole notes do not transition to fortissimo from pp (chosen for audible contrast). Instead they stick to pp. Is there a way to effect dynamics change during the same note? I appreciate an explanation because the tutorial https://musescore.org/en/node/290616 did not help much.
Thanks in advance.

You created your score for piano, which is incapable of single note dynamics. Sounds like you would have preferred organ, since you changed the playback sound to that. So, simply change the actual instrument instead - right-click the staff, Staff/Part Propertires, Change Instrument.

Hello Marc! Thank you for your reply. I figured out that changing the instrument to organ worked. I hope it would work just as good with any non-percussive instrument like a violin for example.
I'd like to ask whether there is way to change the dynamic within a single measure. I tried to use the hairpin and dynamics just like we do in measure-to-measure dynamic transition and looks like it's out of place. Did not achieve the result. Any comments?

If the actual physical instrument in question is capable of single note dynamics, then MuseScore's synthesized version is also. In some cases, you may even be able to force an instrument that is not physically of it to nevertheless support it, by checking the box in the Staff/Part Properties dialog, but chances are just as good the synthesized version won't work either.

For the hairpin, be sure to add it and other dynamic in the same voice. If you continue to have trouble, please attach your actual score, not just a picture, so we can understand and assist better.

I have an update to my question. Can we playback Sforzando in Musecore? "sfp" for instance. Does the default Musecore soundfont pick it up?
