Remark function - Write down a memo
Hello. I am a composer, and I think it'd be awesome to make a written remark - in the same fashion as text editors - for either a selected note or a group of notes, or a measure. It'd be an easy way to write down what a composer might need to and to pin up things on each different occasion and at different times. This might save a lot of time, and be a new revolution in composing.
Thanks
Best
It may look light that.
- Choose a note, a group or note, or a measure to comment;
- Select it;
- Click on a specific button with a "comment" function: it will do what's below reported (open a small text field);
- Write the remark.
When you'll go around the score, if something has been commented, you'll see it by its background color.
Also, it'd be great to have a collection of all the remarks you've taken in the score, like a comments section.

Yes, it was not well written. When I wrote a note, I meant a remark that you might add when it's needed.

Do you mean some sort of macro/shortcut that would expand into a bunch of notes or a measure? Maybe some pictures would help to clarify your idea.

Here it is. Just a remark to attach when it's needed... That macro function would be great (doing that also with notes) but maybe the text is enough?

Looks like a good idea to me. I would certainly make use of such a feature. This would be similar to Excel's option to add a comment to a cell which can then pop-up like a sticky note.
I understand you. You want to be able to write some notes/comments. Like when your .pdf reader software enables you to make a comment on a range of text in .pdf file. This looks to me as a useful feature.

Yes, exactly. It’d be very useful, to me - also - so important. Especially when you are doubtful about something, or need to take long, consistent considerations that are now impossible to write, as they’d compromise the sheet.
Have you seen this?

Thank you. Yes, but it’s not what I mean. I’d like to pin specific notes up at the notes, in the score.

You can attach staff text to specific notes. You can customise the style of staff text to have the size, font colour, frame and highlight colour of your choice. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/text-styles-and-properties.
You van add staff text with keyboard shortcut CTRL+T.
Does this get close to what you want?

Here is an example

Thank you.
No, because they're part of the score, and not identified as comments. In the new feature, by clicking on a specific button, you would see the remarks in a specific and different small window (it's the same as some text editors).

Ahh! you are suggesting some sort of collapsible text. I guess the closest you can currently get is to export a score to pdf and use Adobe to annotate it. But that does not help much for works in progress.

Yes… that’s the problem. And you’d need to take the notes every time you save the file. Is this feature possible to make?
In reply to Yes… that’s the problem. And… by voondracula
I guess it is possible, maybe with a plugin. This one already exists https://musescore.org/project/add-comments-score but it does not associate comments with particular locations in the score.
I think I would use this facility if if existed, but for my purposes adding comments using staff text works ok. The comments are there only for my benefit as aides-memoire during the composition process They get deleted/edited as the work progresses and are completely removed in the completed work. Having the comments collapsible would reduce clutter but I can live with clutter.
I looked in the issue tracker and could not find a similar suggestion. Perhaps that is your next step.

In the meantime you could also attach texts to full measure rests in voice 2, 3 or 4 in a 'marker staff', created as the bottom staff of your score. The first measure of this staff contains full measure rests in all voices. It functions as a fast accessible starting point for navigation and as a template for copying the rests to your marker points, deleting the rests in unwanted voices. Now you can instantly navigate between say all your annotations attached to a voice 2 rest. And hide the marker staff when you don't need it.

@MichLeon Thank you. That's a good solution, though you can't see all the comments in a specific section, and might be more complicated than the "minimal" feature that only needs a button. Also, to me, it'd be a great feature to have the "remarked" notes identified by a color, it might be me, but I'd see how I'm doing with the work. And I think this applies to instrumentalists as well.

@SteveBlower Thank you for your advice. So, to require this feature I have to report it in the issue tracker? Thank you. Best

If the plugin API can respond to selecting a staff text then maybe a plugin could be written to toggle the visibility of a simple 'placeholder' text with a 'sticky note' text. Placeholders could be like ^1, ^2, ^a, ^b or something else with a defined trigger prefix.
Then, either the placeholder or the sticky note would be visible, but not both at the same time.

@yonah_ag Thank you. I've studied a little magic myself at school - I have a high school diploma in IT - but I wouldn't know where to start to implement such a feature. And I think you've got what I meant. A placeholder, an icon, like Pages' square, which conventionally would express that there's a comment that if clicked opens a window with the remarked text. It'd be great to have a collection of all the comments you've taken somewhere, maybe in this format:
Measure n. x - Text (... if the content overflows the available space)
Measure n. x + 1 - Text

(I bet that you now get asked for selectable background colour per sticky note!)

Use the inspector ;-)
It is just a styled staff text after all. And currently only the text contents is used to identify it as a marker. So you are free to change fonts/colors/frame/visibility as you see fit.

Of course!
This is such a handy p!ugin.
