How do I insert a note under a rest, without the measure recalculating

I am trying to insert a whole note (A) under the eighth rest, as in the example measure on top. I have not figured out the steps to do that, without musescore recalculating and removing the other notes in the measure.

I want the bottom image to have the same notes as the top image.
