How to add Handclaps to instrumental part
HI, I'm arranging a piece at the moment that has passages of handclapping in it. Eg. the trumpet player has the tune for 16 bars, then 8 bars clapping, then plays again....
Is there a way I can notate this on the same part so it looks right, and also sounds right on playback?

that's helpful thanks, but still not the 'perfect' fix because now it is changing the part name and transposing everything back into concert pitch....
any ideas?

You can add a hidden percussion staff . (Open the attached score and go to Edit -> Instruments to make it visible.)
In the trumpet part, put x note heads where claps occur, select them all and untick 'Play' in the Inspector.

Thanks that’s helpful, but is it possible to make it clap on the individual parts too as well as the score?

Include that invisible instrument in the parts as well?

As an update for anyone looking in Musescore 4, you can add a hand clap part under the "Instruments" tab, then select all notes that are supposed to be claps and uncheck "play" under the "properties" tab. Hiding the Hand Clap part will by default mute it in the mixer, so you'll need to open it (F10 or "View" --> "Mixer") and unmute it.
Have a look to one of my scores where I use that . Go to G
