No, they don't, just as MU 2 scores don't open in MU 3.
However, you can export from MU4 as .musicxml and import that to MU 3 with little or no loss of information.

MuseScore 2 score do open in MuseScore 3. But not vice versa

Yes, sorry. There is upward compatibility, not downward and using the principles of higher mathematics, I should have deduced that 3 is greater than 2, not the other way round. Put it down to the cold weather in UK.

It's simple, really. You see, If (3+2)>(3+4) and 6/3 ≠ 340 then 2 < 3 but only if 24/60 = 3 and 9 x -3.2 = .8

...thanks for that (some of my compatriots in the choir are still on v.3).
Now if they'd just fix the lyric line copy bug (selecting more than one lyric element seems beyond 4's current capabilities) I'd be a happy chap!
