Working with MuseScore 3 in macOS 10.14.6, colleague's mac only supports MuseScore 2.
Hi, (my first ask in the forums!)
I am working in macOS 10.14.6, but unwilling to progress to the next main OS. So I am currently limited to MuseScore 3. I am working with an arranger whose system limits him to MuseScore 2. His version would not open a *.mscz file that I edited in MuseScore 3 from his Musescore 2 file. I don't know why it could not open a *.mscz file from a later version.
I volunteered to also download MuseScore 2, but when I checked here in downloadable MuseScore (I guess since now 4 is the main version) only various builds of MuseScore 3 were available.
I shared with him the MuseScore *.mscz file, the generated/exported PDF and musicXML files as a way to finesse the problem, but I don't know yet if that will do it. I said that I would ask here in the forum. Would exporting as *.mscx (uncompressed) work?
This guy only a few days a week ago downloaded MuseScore 2. I have asked him where he got his version 2, but I wonder if here there is a link/resource that can get me MuseScore 2 -- AND -- would it work in macOS 10.14.6?
And if there are any other points that I missed here, let me know, please.
Best,
--B.

I see in the support section that someone had an analogous problem, and a solution using .mxl export. There is a problem opening the .mxl back into 3 with some formatting, but I haven't checked it all. But it does open.
I guess I need MuseScore2 to verify the guy's difficulty.
I solved my own problem, we WE-Transfered MuseScore 2 and both successfully live on my mac now.
I opened the .mxl in MuseScore 2 and saved it as a *.mscz there and switched my default opening of that file type to version 2. So, all is good.
However, any other comments, advice, are welcome. Thanks!

Glad you solved your problem.
For future reference, you have to follow links on the Downloads page and hunt a bit for the old MS 2 files, but you can still download the .dmg file for MS 2.3.2 from here:

Daniel,
I sure did, and it solved a lot of problems. I prolly misread the link that took me to the one you gave me, because afterwards I understood what it was saying.
All good. Thanks so much!
