Editing problems - rests
I am using Musescore to learn music notation. I am transcribing a song from a book, so I can see exactly where things sit on my guitar fretboard.
Starting with a blank score, Clef, and key signature in place - all the other bars are occupied with a full rest.
As I try to add any notes - the score has other rests, full, quarter, etc added - I don't need these and I can see no way of stopping this from happening.
Anything I add is placed before the existing rest. I can't remove the rest or place anything on the other side of it - made worse by other rests being added, seemingly automatically.
Clearly, I am missing something obvious

Seems you got into Insert mode

I assumed that the insert mode was for placing items into the score. I do not understand why the rests are fixed and I cannot either overwrite them or enter the notation where I want it to go.

Hmm, doesn't seem to be a solution for this - it is of no use if Musescore insists on inserting rest and not allowing any control by the user. Pity.

Regular note input mode replaces rests with notes

Yup, I understand that - however, for instance, if you want a rest to begin a new bar and then, in the same bar, enter notes after the rest - I can find no way to do this.

Then enter a rest, "N", duration, "0"

Thanks for that - tried that, didn't work. No worries - given up, and gone to Guitar Pro - it just works. Also no messing around adding other linked staves.
Thank you for trying to help.
