Can not open a MS4 saved file, with MS3
When I save a file with MS 4
Then try to re-open with MS 3 ... it fails to open, so I have to click out, then can Only open wit 4.
(I sadly prefer MS 3 ... hope there might be a work around?)

Here are some ways to get your MS3 files back. https://musescore.org/en/node/335842

so I downloaded the "plug-in"
I am the worst at these plug-ins
I tried to open it, no luck of course
I clicked "open with" and stupidly tried notepad to open it
I also tried to "drag and drop" into miusescore 4 - I just can not seem to understand the plug-in way
they do not seem to be executable files?
nor do they open with typical software?
any way to rename the QML file so it can be opened,
or is there a way to "upload" it?

The plugin won't help you at all in this case

here is a difficult work around,
the file opens fine with 4
so I export it as an XML file to my desktop
this XML file opens fine with MS3.
I then have to load Style, then make 30 little edits that were lost in the export ... oh well
LOVE musescore, but this MS4 has cost me a lot of time - hope MS 3 stays around forever!

I feel you lol. I loaded up MS4 and the playback is a disgusting abomination. I wanted to open the files from MS4 in MS3 after I redownloaded MS3 and it's like I was screwed. They may make some fixes but as of right now, MS4 is horse hockey.

Come to think of it, forget the plugin. A better way is with 7-Zip. download that and you can extract a file that will open with MS3.Right click on the file and select open with MS3 Keep these files in a different folder until you have your files back.
Sorry your experience with MS4 was not good. I actually prefer it.

lots of new things with MS4 for sure,
just a few things:
1) when I move a chord change ... it's super loud!
as in ba-ba-ba-ba-ba screaming / yelling at me.
(it's a 2x of the normal volume of chord changes!)
2) to "drag a note left or right"
(with MS3 I can double click on the note, then arrow the note left or right to correct spacing (with MS4 I have to double click ont he note, then if the mouse slightly goes up or down, there is no sideways shifting of my target note, instead it goes up or down in pitch, but in the same location side to side, then I repeat, trying as many as 10 times, before I somehow get the perfect double click, then drag ... bad.
3) the rectangle area around the Title of my chart is a bermuda triangle. with 3, I could have some notes to the right of the Song Title, such as the tempo, the concert key, the vamp intro, etc. and in 3 you can of course edit this. sadly in 4 ... you can not change anything inside the 1" by 8" rectangle at the top of the page ... so I have to shrink the top title, then I can edit my text, then I re-size the song title back.
these were the first few headaches I got after just a few hours trying it. then of course I can not re-open files in 3 (that were saved in 4 (my top post!)
but seriously, much Love to musescore, and I know 4 has great video or something (?) more modern, and sounds like a better platform. hope it gets the kinks fixed - please check my 1,2,3 notes, hopefully an easy fix :-)

update: when moving chord changes in 3, it is silent (that is why 4 seems so loud)

Yuck - just spent a couple hours exporting files, and noticed a few of the chord changes has been "simplified" also (a majority of jazz writers ... write a CMaj7 chord as C-triangle. Well exporting to MusicXML, deleted the triangles. And it changed a G7s4 into a G7. Maybe more, I will keep working on this.

OK .... 7 hours of my life on this, ouch :-)
so the conversion to MusicXML makes many more changes and deletes.
My prayer is someone might have a way to export the exact file? - or -
Maybe a MS3 patch so it can read files saved with MS4?

That's for corruptions...
Not the case for the OP, as far as I can tell
Export to MusicXML
In reply to Export to MusicXML by Jojo-Schmitz
thanks brother jojo! that was my workaround. and it works!
(MS3 can open the MusicXML file fine ... has the basic data, I just have to "load style" then tweak the chords spacing to get to my liking ... maybe 30 mouse clicks, and dragging a few notes - it worked!
Love all you do - check out my friendly 3 suggestions above, maybe a help?
