Triplets - unusual notation
I'm transposing a piece from Alto Clef into Tenor Clef for Trombone. It has some unusual notation in that it's showing a dotted crochet but with a slanted line through the note "tail". I asked my musician friend and she confirmed what I thought, it's an alternative notation for a triplet.
I know I can just make it into triplets, but can Musescore give me the notation I'd like?

It's a tremolo. Different varieties are available in the tremolo palette. You want the single note tremolo. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/tremolo-and-rolls for more detail.

Thank Steve. The problem I have is Musescore won't let me put three dotted crochets in one 4/4 bar, so it looks like they'll have to go in as triplets anyway. However, thanks for the advice and I've learnt something new.

Start with a crotchet rest. Select it and press CTRL+3 to "tripletise" it. Select the first resulting triplet quaver rest and press 5 and the augmentation dot. Then select your note name to enter a dotted crotchet that fills the triplet. After all, you want a triplet, so you have to enter one, albeit it consists of a single (dotted crotchet) note.
