Help with editing a score

I borrowed this score to edit to another arrangement. Running into problems with measure 16 getting the note durations and the triplet correct. I've spent more than an hour so far trying various things w/o luck. Can someone please fix M16 for me?

Hi rothers, thanks for the instructions! It's better but not there yet. There are a couple of incorrect notes in the .jpg which I did not copy over. There's an issue with the duration of the chord at the beginning of the triplet, which should be twice as long I believe. Attached is a piano version where I pitched it to match my guitar version. I want mine to sound like the piano version rhythm wise for M16.

If you zoom in and inspect measure 16 of your piano version, you will see the turn written out in tiny notes (with no triplet). The turn symbol displayed is merely staff text (so not taken from the Ornaments palette). The piano version here:

writes the ornament out. While there, read his notes about measure 16.

Since you are transcribing this for guitar, and are using a linked TAB staff, it may be better to fully notate the ornament rather than use the turn symbol. It would be easier for a tabber to play.

It should "sound like the piano version rhythm wise for M16".

EDIT: I was originally going to use the turn ornament symbol as shown in your piano attachment (while using voice 4 with invisible notes to actually play it). When I decided to write it out instead (for the linked TAB), the deleted voice 4 notes left rests behind.
I have deleted those rests and re-attached the updated score. It has a "-3" in the file name.

Appreciate your help! Your edited score does "sound like the piano version rhythm wise for M16".

Thanks for the link to james_brigham's piano version. I read his notes about M16 and some his other notes which has links to other sources of info on the prelude 4.

I did not know what a turn is before. Now I do!

Another issue with this score:
I went to Format /. Add remove system breaks. , enter 3 measures per stave
That worked up to M14, but failed for M15 to M17. Do you know why? Using Musescore 3.6

Well, M16 has a lot of notes so you have to scrunch three measures together to fit them onto the same line.
So...
First (optional) thing to do is set the score to 'Page View' instead of 'Single Page'. Presumably you'd want to format the score to look good on paper, or as pages in a pdf file:.

Next look carefully for a system break at M16. It's obscured near the end of the CIII line and the beam over the last note in that measure. You have to delete the break if it's there, otherwise what follows won't work.
Finally, select M15 - M17 (as a group) and press { once or twice to decrease the layout stretch so that M15 - M17 all fit on one line. (That's why a system break can't be at M16.)

There is no system break at M16 that I can find. I did try what you suggested: set score to 'Page View', then "removed current system breaks", then "break system every 3 measures". Results was not as intended but same as before. Were you able to make the entire score 3 measures per stave?

For crystal clarity, you should mention exactly which of the 4 scores you are working from. This way, when you say what you are doing, or what you can't find, we're all looking at the same score. On this forum page there is:

This is attached to your very first post. It has a system break at M16.

  1. WIP Prelude_in_E_minor_Op._28_No._4_Guitar_Arrangement_-_Chopin2.mscz
    This is rothers' attachment. It has a system break at M17, with 3 measures on each line (technically called a "system"). However, it uses a triplet in M16 - the same as the triplet in your jpeg picture -
    451BB064-59FB-46A6-84FA-17A790376E44_1_201_a.jpeg - which is attached to your very first post.

  2. WIP Prelude_in_E_minor_Op._28_No._4_Guitar_Arrangement_-_Chopin.mscz
    This is attached to your post which includes the piano version which you want M16 to sound like rhythm wise, because the aforementioned triplet in #2 above doesn't work.

  3. Prelude_in_E_minor_Op._28_No._4_Guitar_Arrangement-Chopin-3.mscz
    This is my attachment which does "sound like the piano version rhythm wise for M16". It has a system break at M16.

Okay, and now you want 3 measures per system. So, use my score - #4 in the list above and attached to an earlier post.
Following those instructions in my other post, you must look carefully for the system break and delete it:

Then select M15 - M17 and press { once or twice to reduce stretch:

The image above shows M15 - M17 on the same system.
Here is the score (Notice the different name I gave it) with 3 measures per system (except for the last):

With 3 measures per system, the final 2 measures are all alone on a third page. Deleting the system break at the end of page 2 places all the music on 2 pages. (Fits nicely on a music stand.)
I also changed the duration of the very first (pickup) measure.

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy with family member health related issues. Thanks for your clear and detailed reply. I know what to do now and will bookmark this post for future reference. Yes I should have stated which score I used. I used the score in my first post, copied your measure 16, but did not use { to shrink the measures, which was crucial.

How do you insert image of a score into a post? I tried to drag & drop a screenshot of a score into my 1st post but it did not work.

How do you insert image of a score into a post?

First, you attach the image file (just like you did with your jpeg above), then you position the (text entry) cursor to the place in your reply where you want the image to appear.
Click 'insert', and the image appears at that location.

I read the how to, followed the instructions. Still no joy. I made a screen recording of the steps I took. How do I post it here?

Using Chrome on Mac. Going to try Safari and see if it makes any difference.

Did you click the word "insert" yourself, as the instructions stated? Someone else next to you clicked it?

You need to follow the instructions as they are written. Here is a partial screenshot from the how to:

In the image above, look at the big red arrow. It points to the underlined blue word "insert". The instructions tell you to click on it after attaching your file. (The underline may be omitted, but the word is colored blue.)

So, after attaching your file, (and placing the text cursor where you want to insert the image) move your mouse over the word "insert" which is colored blue and click it. Do not click any of the words "insert" that may be printed in black elsewhere in the forum. You need to click on the insert link (the blue word "insert"), as the instructions tell you to do. Take another look at my image above and notice the red arrow pointing to where you should click. (Technically speaking, the blue word "insert" may omit the underline after your attachment is successfully uploaded. In any event, your file will display as an attachment only, unless the blue word "insert" is clicked. That's why your images don't display. They are only attached, and will display as an attachment and not inserted into the message. To insert, you must click on the blue word "insert".)

(It should now be easier than finding that system break in your score ;-)

Got it this time! I've been clicking the most prominent box with the green check mark to the right of 'insert' and not the (tiny) word 'insert' itself. Either that's confusing user interface design or I'm a dummy lol.
