Duplicate a stave with contents in MU4

• Jun 28, 2023 - 14:21

OK - I know how to do this. But it's a pain.

  1. Generate a new staff for the copy.
  2. Navigate to the start of the staff to copy.
  3. Select the first note.
  4. Navigate to the end of the staff - with the selection still "open".
  5. Select the last note or chord.
  6. Copy - with CTRL-C or CMD-C.
  7. Navigate to the start of the new staff.
  8. Paste - with CTRL-V or CMD -V

OTOH in most DAWs it's possible to duplicate a track with just one or two keystrokes.

Is there anything like this yet in MU4, or even planned? It would be very helpful.

Why would one want this? OK - to try out different instruments!
Example - create mutiple copies of the same staff. Then using the Mixer associate each copy with a different instrument - possibly even from different virtual instrument libraries.

Then it would be possible to compare/evaluate the different instruments, or combinations much more easily than at present.

It is a little easier than you report:

  1. Yes, create several new instruments in the instruments dialog
  2. Press 'Home'
  3. Select the first measure (or note) and press Ctrl-Shift-End
  4. (not applicable)
  5. (not applicable)
  6. Copy
  7. Press 'Home', select the start measure of the new staff.
  8. Paste ... and paste and paste in all your new instrument staves.

Don't you agree that this is a very special application?

By "navigate to the end" I understood "scroll to the end", e.g. with ALT mouse wheel. I interpreted this by the words "with selection still 'open'". And that is then more elaborate.
Using Shift-Ctrl-End there is no 'open selection', it is just selecting the whole staff.

Nevertheless, one can suggest to implement such a function. For that there is the section 'Feature Request'.

No need to navigate anywhere. Select the first measure across both staves, press Shift+Ctrl+End as with any program to select to end of document. Then, Tools / Expldoe copies the top staff to the next (and any other selected staves - useful to make multiple copies).

Even without Explode, there is no need for all that navigating, The copy & paste method works fine without ever leaving the first measure.
