Running Musescore 3 on a Win 11 pc
I used to run Musescore 3 on a Win 10 pc without any problem, but after switching to Win 11 on my new pc, everything works fine .... except Musescore 3 !
• It crashes from time to time, forcing me to shut the program down and re-open it
• I always need to reset midi and audio in settings, even when I just plug-in a wired head-set
• Entries are much slower than with Windows 10 – some examples :
- Entering text from a file (ctrl+V) used to be a fluent process, but is now difficult because the text
appears 1-2 seconds after you enter it
- Creating mp3 files or pdf files from a score takes twice as long as with Windows 10
• In general the program seems to be about 30% slower that with Windows 10.
Every time I open Musescore, the system ask for permission to “make changes to my system as the app is from an unknown source” !!
Why is it suddenly “unknown”, when it was recognized without any problems in Window 10. Is that the reason for it being slow ?
I’m considering switching to Musescore 4, but before I do it – what is your experience with these matters? Are other users facing the same problems with Muscscore 3 and Win 11 ? And do they also occur with Musescore 4 and Win 11 ?

I'm using version 3.6.2.548021803
Where did you get this copy of MU3?
The permissions thing is usually only asked when you first install a program. How are you starting the program?
What do you mean by "crash"? Usually a crash closes the program.
I don't run MU3 on my W11 machine. But there should be no problem running it.
Have you considered a factory reset of MuseScore?
This isn't S mode Windows, is it?

but it mostly freezes and has to be terminated and re-run.
I think I'll install Musescore 4 and see if that fixes the problems

Okay, I installed Musescore 4 and it seems to run smoothly. So I'll stick to that version.
Thaks to all for replies and advice 👍
Mu3 works just fine on Win11 for me

It works so well for me Jojo that I'm not using M4 anymore until I'm forced to. I've written hundreds of SATB scores over the years on M1, M2 and M3 and seen a positive improvement with each new version. Not so with M4 I'm sorry to say. I've tried and tried but the tears keep falling....

hopefulstrider, may we assume you are talking about W11?

Yes, JoJo. I've persevered with it, but finally given up after one of many navigation frustrations. The last one was spending ages trying to change a continuous slur to a dashed slur. Something I can do blindfolded in M3.

It's easy for you because you learned how to do it in MU3. You can learn it in MU4, also.
That is even easier to do in MU4. But you have to make sure the UI is setup properly. Not really difficult.
Select the slur. Select the Properties tab in palettes. Select the type of dotted slur you want.
Don't see a properties tab? That's part of making sure the UI is setup properly. Manual.

Exactly - that's my very point Jojo. It occurs with every software supplier.
Who gives a toss about the poor old user..... as soon as you become accomplished - some might say almost expert - with a crackin' piece of software, you are instantly reduced to novice with a purported major upgrade which does exactly the same as the previous - (with a few more bells and whistles) - but differently.
Sorry, but that's life as a user.
I respect you JoJo, I appreciate what you do for Musescore, but as a lifelong user, major changes in the front end are extremely frustrating.
Regards
Fred

Please read who you are responding to. I'm not Jojo. He has better things to do.
Studies show that it is good for your brain to learn new things. Mu4 isn't that different. I think many things are easier to find. It's also good to read posts you are responding to. Just sayin'.
No one is saying MU4 is perfect. No one is saying you have to use it. You need to use the version that works best for you. You are more than welcome to use MU3. But only if you take note of who you are responding to:)

Apologies, I thought I was responding to someone with a little more consideration of long term users

FWIW, I've been using notation software since long before MuseScore was around. I would dabble in it once in a while. Each time I found it wanting. It wasn't until V3 and SND that I found I could work with it. And, for me, MU4 is much better. But it isn't for everyone. Like I said, we each need to do what we need to do as far as which version we use.
